Sammo HUNG to receive Lifetime Achievement Award
at AFA16

優サモ・ハン・キンポーさん、特別功労賞を受賞The 16th Asian Film Awards (AFA16) will be presenting its Lifetime Achievement Award to action cinema legend Sammo HUNG in recognition of his great contribution and far-reaching influence on Asian films.

After learning about the award, Hung said, “I’m so happy and surprised that I can still win awards these days, especially an award that affirms my entire performing career.” He will attend the AFA16 ceremony on March 12th to accept his award in person.

 
The AFA’s Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes film professionals who inspire excellence in others, and in their lifetimes have made fundamental achievements and lasting impact of outstanding artistic, cultural and commercial significance in Asian cinema. As announced earlier, Japanese actor ABE Hiroshi will receive the Excellence in Asian Cinema Award and will attend the award ceremony too.

The AFA16 will be held on March 12th at the Jockey Club Auditorium of the Hong Kong Palace Museum. Awards will be presented to recognize the best filmmakers in Asia, and many Japanese nominees are expected to attend.
 


 
Notable Asian directors and actors to meet the Hong Kong Audience in person at AFA16 Asian Cinerama Screenings

The Asian Film Awards Academy announced that eight outstanding nominated films of the AFA16 will be screened in Hong Kong from March 10 through 12 for three days specially before the Awards Ceremony.
 
The screening event titled Asian Cinerama features eight films including all five Best Film nominees: Decision to Leave, Drive My Car, Poet (The first Best Film nominee from Kazakhstan), Indian period epic Ponniyin Selvan: Part I and Filipino social drama When the Waves Are Gone. The selection also included Broker (nominated for Best Director), Before, Now & Then (five nominations including Best Actress), and Emergency Declaration (nominated for Best Supporting Actor and Actress).
 
World-class filmmaking masters Lav DIAZ, Japanese directors Hamaguchi Ryusuke and Kore-eda Hirokazu, and Darezhan OMIRBAYEV will visit Hong Kong and greet the audience at the post-screening session. In addition, Korean actor YIM Si-wan (Emergency Declaration); and Indonesian actress Happy SALMA and director Kamila ANDINI (Before, Now & Then) will also attend screenings to represent their nominated films.
