SDGs in Motion, our new film section at TIFF, is on a mission this year—to shine a spotlight on films aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals: Goals 1 (No Poverty), 5 (Gender Equality), 13 (Climate Action), and 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). These goals are not just abstract ideals; they are a call to action, a roadmap for change. We’ve meticulously curated this program with films that serve as catalysts for sparking crucial conversations, pushing boundaries, and nurturing global unity on these pressing issues. Our open-screen exhibitions showcase commercially released masterpieces interwoven with deeply human, often real-life narratives, with the goal of spreading enlightenment far and wide.

Looking ahead, we envision this initiative flourishing through partnerships, vision, and collaborative creation, evolving into a competitive platform. Change starts with audacious dreams, and cinema provides the canvas. Together, let’s envision cinema as a potent spark propelling SDG progress, guiding us toward a more equitable and sustainable future.

These times in history are critical, and when we unite, our collective actions hold tremendous potential for change. Cinema and filmmakers possess a profound capacity to drive this transformation. That is the magic of storytelling—to make us see clearly why promoting wide-reaching action for issues that matter is imperative, without delay.
