In addition to the Opening film Perfect Days and the Closing film Godzilla Minus One, the colorful 60-second trailer teases 11 films from the Gala Selection (from a full list of 14 films), which screens titles that have created a buzz among audiences at international film festivals, as well as Japanese blockbusters.
Director: Tsukamoto Shinya
Cast: Shuri, Moriyama Mirai
Country/Region: Japan
*The Exorcist: Believer, Gold Boy and My (K)Night are not included in the trailer.
The 36th TIFF Tickets go on sale on October 14.
Details will be announced on the official TIFF website.
The trailer features the 36th TIFF festival song “Japanalog” by TESTSET (SUNAHARA Yoshinori, LEO IMAI, SHIRANE Kenichi and NAGAI Seiichi), a Japanese band which wowed the audience at Fuji Rock Festival ’23 with a spectacular performance. This genre fluid disco tune with elements of rock, techno and funk and with all-English lyrics could be an original style from Japan. It was chosen as the festival song this year because it aligns with the festival’s goals. The soundscape, combined with images from films around the world, will fuel anticipation for this year’s festival.
Comment from TESTSET’s LEO IMAI:
I was fascinated by the world of films before I became fascinated by the world of music. Nowadays, I often encounter new favorite songs and artists through film soundtracks, rather than chasing after new music information. We at TESTSET would be happy if our song “Japanalog” also pierces someone’s imagination through the world of cinema.
TESTSET: 36th TIFF festival song performer
Sunahara Yoshinori and LEO IMAI, who performed at Fuji Rock Festival ’21 as a special formation of METAFIVE, welcomed Shirane Kenichi (drums) of GREAT3 and Nagai Seiichi (guitar) of Sotaisei Riron, and started live performances together by naming the group TESTSET. In 2022, they released their first EP, “EP1 TSTST,” and performed at festivals such as Sonic Mania and Asagiri Jam. In July 2023, they released their first album, “1STST.” They also performed on the White Stage at Fuji Rock Festival ’23.
